MOUNT HOOD, Oregon, July 23. THE third evening of long course meter competition at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Mount Hood, Ore., featured a meet record from Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin, 14.
Franklin eclipsed the listed meet record with a time of 2:00.84 in the women's 200 free. The time bettered the 2:01.11 set by Andie Taylor in 2008. Corvallis' Anna Crandall (2:02.88) finished second, while Jordan Mattern of Colorado Stars wound up third in 2:04.50.
Boulder's Stephen Schmuhl snagged the men's 200 free title in 1:52.97. Tacoma's Ian Wheeler earned second in 1:53.90, while DU Hilltopper Clayton Myers claimed third in 1:53.93.
Colorado Stars' Kelly Naze, 15, turned in a 4:52.15 to win the women's 400 IM. Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon touched second in 4:53.86, while Mattern took another third-place finish with a 4:54.08.
Myers turned the third-place finish in the 200 free into a win in the men's 400 IM with a 4:30.73. Greenwood's Jared Markham placed second in 4:31.92, while North Jeffco's Andrew Chevalier grabbed third in 4:32.97.
